Natalya Sydney: The genealogy contained within Matthew is that of Joseph. It shows that Jesus was the adopted son of Joseph (Mary is the 14th generation listed in the genealogy), thus giving Jesus legal right to sit on the throne of Israel. However God had promised that no blood descended of the last king would ever rule. So Jesus had to be of the bloodline of David, but not through this son Solomon.Luke gives us the genealogy of Jesus through Mary. You will notice that it says that Jesus "was supposed to be the son of Joseph, the son of...." That phrase "supposed to be" means that they are following Jesus' bloodline through marriage - that is his maternal bloodline through Mary. It was against tradition to list a bloodline through the woman, so they would list her husband and stated that her bloodline "was supposed to be" that of her husband. That phrase indicated it was a "legal" bloodline to Joseph through marriage. If you read back through that bloodline, you will ! find that Mary was related to David's son Nathan. So Jesus was "of the family of David", and able to fulfill that promise that a member of David's family would be coming an eternal King. He could legally take that title because he was adopted by Joseph, the rightful heir to the throne. But through the virgin birth, not of the bloodline of the other kings. You are correct that Joseph was not blood related to Jesus. But he was legally related through marriage and adoption....Show more
Nicolas Cooley: Joseph "adopted" Jesus (so to speak) and therefore Jesus was recognized as his legal heir.Matthew traced the lineage of Jesus through Joseph, but Luke traced his lineage through Mary.
Lia Argall: One genealogy is for Mary and the other is for Joseph...both are from the Line of David.
Madlyn Fallis: According to Bible scholars the second genealogy is Mary's
Marquetta Gimm: I'm sorry, but you all have a different Bible than I do it seems.Mary is not menti! oned in Luke 3. "And Jesus himself began to be about thirty y! ears of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli"Let me repeat "Joseph, which was the son of Heli"That is exactly the same pattern as the next verse:"Which was the son of Matthat, which was the son of Levi, which was the son of Melchi, which was the son of Janna, which was the son of Joseph,"What kind of contortions do you go through to say this is Mary's genealogy?...Show more
Alphonso Brake: 2 distinctive genealogies. The Orthodox Church has by no ability observed Rome's doctrine of the stainless thought, because it grow to be no longer area of the deposit of religion won from the early Church. Heli is Mary's organic and organic father, and Joseph is "of Heli", no longer "son of Heli", which the Greek does not say. the stainless thought is with reference to the transmission of sin, no longer approximately whether Mary's mom and father "did it".
Mitsuko Manne: for complex stuff use a Bible timeline and scholar Bible or consult ! a minister..
Mercedez Trabue: Jesus was born from the house of David, through the son of David, Nathan a prophet, through Nathan was Mary born.Joseph was not the Father of Jesus, God is the Word, and God was the Father of Jesus.
Basil Blasingame: Actually, Joseph descended through the line of Solomon, whom God cursed, and therefore, Christ's bloodline is traced back through Mary, to David. Mary and Joseph were both in the line of David, through different children of David's.
Hubert Jestes: Because two of the gospels don't even believe that Mary was a virgin. Kind of an important detail to leave out.
