answers 0:I am currently in a dental assistant program and am doing exceptionally well. I am not overly challenged by the program but I am very interested in all that I am learning. I have been wondering about continuing my education to become a dentist after dental assistant school but would like some professional opinions. I am 28 years old and wondering if I might have made this decision to late. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thank youanswers 1:You are not too old to become a dentist. My dental class had many who were in their 30's and 40's. Although your dental assisting curriculum is not challenging, a dental school curriculum is extremely challenging especially without an undergraduate degree. You cannot progress from dental assisting school to dental school as if it was a continuation of your dental education. It's not like going from jun! ior high to high school but if you have the determination to go to school another 8 years, then go for it....answers 2:You are late alright, but when i was in dental school i had a classmate who was in his 40s and a few in their 30s. So if you are serious go for it! So let's do the math. You'll have dental assisting education but that is not the undergrad education the dental schools are looking for. Do you realize you'll need 8 more years of education before the residency? Some dental school say that an undergrad degree is not a requirement but those who have it will be more competitive for the acceptance and everyone has it. See if you can take advantage of the early acceptance program some schools offer.Realistically, you'll need a undergrad degree like biology, chemistry or biochemistry. Preparing for these degrees will help you to prepare for the dental program as well. One must not underestimate the academic challenge and load you must be able to handle.Good lu! ck! Believe in yourself and chase after your dream!!...
