Is it better to have car totaled or repaired?

Mahalia Brindle: The settlement they are giving you is basically what the insurance company determines as the value of the car. I would take the cash and go buy a car.It is much easier to deal with cash in your hands than a car. If you walk into a dealer with a $7000 down payment you'll be able to walk out of their with a very nice car and low paymnets. You may go through all of this and only be offered $5000 for the Toyota. I'd take the cash rather then wait for what's behind door #2....Show more

Becky Mosena: I would just total it and get the money. Hopefully it covers what you owe on it and if not...hopefully you got the GAP insurance. A car loses a lot of value once it has been in an accident.

Ty Kirton: I don't know the blue book on your car but repaired cars are generally worth less.

Willis Liburd: better to get it totaled. take your money and run!!!! way better and easier for you..

Autumn Vacio: There is really no way to know for sure witho! ut a market assessment of the car, independent of the damage. Start with a Kelly Blue Book quote. Much depends on the rest of the condition/interior of the car. If everything else is in great shape, you would probably come out ahead. But keep in mind that most states require that you disclose if a car was in an accident where the damage exceeded 25% the value of the car. That will probably reduce your market value some....Show more
